A Small Turtle
I am as handsome and darling
As a small turtle.
You won’t believe this.
I don’t expect you to.
Spread out across a long spectrum;
It is a spectrum inclusive of socks,
Hair jellies, catfish fantasies, and long
Nauseas of relentless questions:
All the undulating leaves of these oak trees
Caught in the twilight sun and all the hope
Of this west is pale, stricken and green;
The sharp contrast of each grass blade
Balancing a moment of inchworm silk
Like the thin network of human souls
Crossing and crisscrossing appointed razors.
